Over 500 A321neos May Have Fuselage Coating Flaw, But Airbus Says They're Safe To Fly

Airbus is investigating a fuselage anti-corrosion coating deviation on more than 500 Airbus A321neo aircraft, but says the affected jets are safe to keep flying while a rework is carried out. The issue involves stringers in the lower forward fuselage where the anti-corrosion primer layer is excessively thin, potentially reducing corrosion resistance. Airbus previously identified and contained the source this summer, tracing it to a second-tier supplier named as TESI, a subcontractor to Italy’s Leonardo. About 250 aircraft are already in service and roughly 250 more are in production, across Airbus’ European, U.S. and Chinese supply chain. The A321XLR is not affected.
