Palm Beach jet crash kills 9, displaces hundreds and leaves fiery crater behind: What to know
A LearJet 60 crashed into a South Florida neighborhood in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, around 12:50 p.m. ET, about 7 miles southwest of West Palm Beach, and erupted into flames, killing all nine people aboard and leaving a fiery crater. The FAA said there were no survivors, and identities have not been released; however, family members identified pilot Nathalia Filgueiras. The plane departed Austin, Texas, and was traveling to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. Military Trail was closed between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Officials said about 600 people were displaced near a mobile home park, and District 3 Commissioner Joel Flores said efforts were underway to shelter those affected. Witnesses described a loud impact, shaking, and flames spreading across the roadway. Federal investigators are expected to update Monday.
