Mohamed Coulibaly, a 23-year-old entrepreneur from Mali who rose quickly in Philadelphia’s business scene, was found dead in a pool in New Jersey this summer, according to reporting. Once a boyhood marked by extreme poverty, he later appeared to live a “fairy tale” lifestyle—designer clothing, private flights, and meetings with professional athletes he encouraged to invest in an online shopping venture he described as all profit and no risk. In his final months, he reportedly faced furious investors and journalists as money stopped flowing. He was never charged with a crime and reportedly was not known to be under law-enforcement investigation. His family buried him in Bamako, while investors struggled to recover funds and sought answers.
