Pilot dies after small plane crash at airport, Sutter County sheriff's office says
A fatal crash involving a small aircraft occurred Thursday morning at Sutter County Airport, according to local officials. The Federal Aviation Administration said a Vans RV-4 went through a fence at about 7:10 a.m., with only the pilot aboard. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said the airport would remain closed until further notice and that multiple law enforcement units were investigating the aircraft in a field on airport grounds. Visual observations indicated both wings and the propeller were damaged, while debris and a bent chain-link fence were seen nearby. KCRA 3’s Mike TeSelle reported that the video from a nearby business showed the plane landing off-center, rolling parallel to the runway, and then passing through the fence and a cable. The sheriff’s office identified the pilot as 68-year-old Gerald Binse of Yuba City. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
