Pilots who died in fiery jet crash en route to pick up MLB legend identified as US citizens

Two American pilots died when a private Gulfstream G200 jet crashed in the Dominican Republic while en route to pick up St. Louis Cardinals legend Yadier Molina. Pilot Erik Javier Diago and co-pilot Ruddy Ghazal, both U.S. citizens, were taking off from La Romana International Airport on Sunday when the aircraft encountered problems and attempted an emergency landing, erupting into a massive fireball as it touched down in an open field. There were no passengers aboard. Molina later expressed condolences on social media, noting the mission would have taken him and his party to Texas before returning to Puerto Rico. The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission are investigating the cause.
