Prince Harry's Invictus Games 'could be cancelled' in major blow to Royal
Prince Harry’s Invictus Games theme is facing a reported funding shortfall that could jeopardize the July Birmingham event. The Duke of Sussex is in the UK to launch the “One Year to Go” countdown, with the competition set for next July in Birmingham. On the Daily Expresso podcast, presenter JJ Anisiobi said a source warned the Invictus Games “could get cancelled,” citing reliance on sponsorships. The UK has underwritten £26m, but it will release about £3m now, leaving the organizers needing to raise the balance before the games. Anisiobi added that a major sponsor, Boeing, has pulled out. Organizers are now seeking local commercial partners. Harry also attended an Invictus Foundation event at London’s Chatham House on July 7 and is expected to lead countdown activities in Birmingham.
