A Pennsylvania memorial event highlighted the 9:57 Project’s effort to keep the Flight 93 story alive by connecting veterans with students. The project traces its mission to the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93, who began their revolt at 9:57 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2001, after learning other hijacked planes struck the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The aircraft ultimately crashed into an empty field in Somerset County, with all 40 onboard dying. Co-founded by teacher Peter Findler and Army veteran John Hamilton, the project began in 2013 and brings speakers to schools and groups to the Flight 93 National Memorial, including the 40 names etched into its walls.
