An Arizona man who was duct-taped to his seat and restrained with zip ties after becoming unruly on an American Airlines flight in early September said he drank two alcoholic drinks and did not recall the incident, according to audio from his court appearance the next day. Authorities said Layne Arthur Lundeen, 67, was arrested after a plane bound for Newark was forced to land in Baltimore on Sept. 3. He was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct after allegations that he assaulted a passenger and shouted racial slurs at a flight attendant. In Annapolis on Sept. 4, Lundeen appeared confused by the accusations, saying he didn’t remember what happened. Passenger accounts described escalated shouting, physical confrontation and an emergency landing announcement.
