RTX's Pratt & Whitney Marks Delivery Of First GTF Advantage-Powered Aircraft To United Airlines

United Airlines and Pratt & Whitney on Thursday marked the delivery of the first aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney’s GTF Advantage engines: an Airbus A321XLR. Pratt & Whitney, part of RTX, said the A321XLR is particularly well-suited for long-range missions, citing efficiency, durability and added thrust. United’s Ankit Gupta said the move supports reduced fuel burn and improved reliability as the carrier adds destinations. The GTF Advantage is described as having the most advanced hot section in the single-aisle market, delivering up to twice the “time on wing” versus today’s GTF engine and 4–8% more takeoff thrust. The company plans to transition the PW1100G-JM production line to the Advantage specification by 2028, with an HS+ upgrade option for existing customers.
