Search ongoing for missing medical flight from Bermuda to Boston as crews plan to scour ocean floor
Search efforts continued Sunday off the Massachusetts coast for an air ambulance carrying six people that vanished on a night flight from Bermuda to Boston, the U.S. Coast Guard said. The FAA notified the Coast Guard at 2 a.m. Saturday after losing contact with a Gulfstream G100, registered in Canada, carrying four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals. Crews later found a debris field off Nantucket, with water depth there estimated at 80 to 90 feet. Authorities have searched 2,840 square miles using fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, boats, and cutters while deploying sonar to scan the seabed. Weather was not considered a factor. Preliminary audio suggests the aircraft may have been “coming in blind,” with the pilot reporting electrical problems and declaring an emergency as it approached the coast.
