Selected to strengthen Hawaiian Airlines' neighbor island service

Alaska Airlines announced a future fleet plan to strengthen Hawaiian Airlines’ neighbor island service with a modernized Boeing 737-800 fleet. The plan calls for Hawaiian-branded 737-800 aircraft to replace Hawaiian’s retiring Boeing 717 fleet, supporting more reliable and improved onboard service focused on routes based in Honolulu (HNL). Alaska said the 737-800 will feature a modern premium cabin experience, including twice as many First Class seats and more than 30 additional Premium Class seats for Huaka‘i by Hawaiian and Atmos Rewards members. The aircraft will also include fast, free Starlink Wi‑Fi on all flights, more cargo room for surfboards, reclining leather Recaro seats, and 110V power outlets plus USB charging at every seat. Alaska aims to begin the transition in 2028, while supplementing 717 operations in the near term starting in October with an Alaska-branded 737 flying three round trips per day between Honolulu and Kahului (OGG).
