A small plane crash into a Beijing skyscraper killed the pilot and injured 13 people, according to Chinese authorities, after a collision occurred the day before. Authorities in the Chaoyang district said a two-seat light sport aircraft struck a high-rise near the East Third Ring Road at 5:55 p.m. on Friday, causing the casualties. The brief WeChat notice did not name the building or the pilot, but said the pilot was the only person onboard. Flightradar24 reported that the aircraft was a Sunward SA 60L Aurora that took off from an airport roughly 50 km east of Beijing and flew westward until it ended just east of the East Third Ring Road. The service identified the crash site as the CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun, a 108-story tower rising over 528 meters. Investigators said they are examining the cause; authorities also said the injured were receiving treatment and that debris impact was unclear.
