Small plane crashes into shallow water near remote Alaska town, killing all 4 people aboard

The Piper PA-24-260 was fully submerged in about 15 feet of water in the Seldovia Slough after departing Anchorage and crashing near the remote Alaska town of Seldovia. The Alaska Department of Public Safety said the crash happened at about 1:18 p.m., after the aircraft took off from Merrill Field Airport. A helicopter crew from Anchorage was dispatched, while additional troopers went by boat from Anchor Point. NTSB Alaska region chief Clint Johnson said troopers had to wait until the tide went out; they retrieved the bodies of four adult victims at about 6:30 p.m. The NTSB is investigating, following a similar crash last week in heavy fog in western Alaska.
