Spain star Lamine Yamal scores 10 minutes into his first World Cup start and gives Spain lift off

Spain’s World Cup campaign gained momentum when Lamine Yamal scored 10 minutes into his first start, helping Spain rout Saudi Arabia 4-0 on Sunday in Atlanta. The 18-year-old forward found the far post after sliding in to convert a low cross, opening the scoring at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Yamal became the eighth-youngest scorer in World Cup history, and his early goal helped settle nerves after Spain’s opening-match surprise 0-0 draw with Cape Verde. After Yamal’s strike, Mikel Oyarzabal contributed with an assist and then scored twice more in the 21st and 24th minutes. Marc Cucurella’s shot later rebounded off Hassan Altambakti for an own goal, extending the lead in the second half.
