Surprising: Why Qatar Airways Has Only Had 1 Airbus A380 Flight To The US
Qatar Airways’ limited A380 presence in the U.S. highlights how the airline’s network has shifted toward other widebodies. Although the carrier operates an eight-strong Airbus A380 fleet, data cited by ch-aviation shows that five of the jets were active again after being grounded amid capacity cuts related to the Iran War. The A380s average 10.5 years old and have 517 seats across three cabins. For the U.S., Cirium data indicates Qatar Airways will operate 418 flights from Doha in the month referenced, yet none use the A380. The airline’s only prior U.S. A380 flight was a single trip to launch its route to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on June 1, 2016, despite reported gate assignment issues. Since then, Qatar Airways favors A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft for U.S. routes, including multiple daily services to New York-JFK and others.
