Swedish Jets Scrambled Twice To Intercept Russian Aircraft Over Baltic Sea

Sweden’s armed forces dispatched fighter jets on two occasions on Friday to identify and monitor Russian military aircraft operating over the Baltic Sea. The missions involved JAS 39 Gripen fighters and covered both the northern and southern Baltic regions, with Swedish airspace not violated. Russian aircraft were tracked until at a safe distance and then directed toward Kaliningrad, according to public broadcaster SVT and spokesman Hanna Heurlin, who framed the operations as routine air policing. In the southern Baltic operation, Danish fighters also participated as part of NATO’s defense efforts, and Heurlin described the incidents as serious without speculation on purpose.
