Tech Demo Proves Out MQ-4C Triton and P-8 Poseidon Enhanced Interoperability
Northrop Grumman and Boeing demonstrated enhanced interoperability between the unmanned MQ-4C Triton and the manned P-8A Poseidon in a jointly funded technology demonstration in San Diego on Aug. 5, 2026. The companies said the systems collaborated over an open systems architecture to automate parts of mission control in a first-of-its-kind capability. During the lab exercise, Triton and Poseidon exchanged maritime intelligence through a standardized interface, enabling machine-to-machine mission planning and execution. The demo showed Triton using AI algorithms to collect, process, and share intelligence data in response to a request from the P-8A system. The Universal Command and Control Interface is based on Open Mission Systems and Autonomy—Government Reference Architecture.
