Terror as plane nearly crashes into drone over UK town

A Virgin Atlantic Boeing 787 Dreamliner came within a few feet of a drone during a climb after departing Heathrow for Johannesburg, according to an aviation safety report. The British Airprox Board classified the encounter as having a high risk of collision. The incident occurred on June 8, when the aircraft was about 5,500ft over Woking. The first officer spotted the drone moments before its pass down the right side of the plane, with the object described as about 1m in diameter and light-colored with dark contrast. The report said there was no time to take avoiding action and noted a second flight later reported seeing the drone around 5,000ft.
