Texas CEO Died After Plane Crashed onto Highway, but His Son and 2 Other Teens Survived
A Texas tech community is mourning after a fatal crash near Laredo took the life of Joshua Baer, the 50-year-old co-founder and CEO of Capital Factory, on Tuesday, June 16. The Cessna 680A, carrying six people, including Baer, his son, two other teens, and two pilots, crash-landed just south of Laredo while en route from San José del Cabo, Mexico to Austin. The plane struck a light post and came to a stop on Loop 20, with dashcam footage capturing the moment. Bystanders rushed to help, including two people who used a sledgehammer and a shovel to reach the cockpit. Baer’s son survived and is reported to be in good condition; the family released no further details. Tributes from Texas lawmakers highlighted Baer’s role in Austin’s tech ecosystem, and Capital Factory co-founders Bryan Chambers and Gordon Daughtery mourn the loss. The six people were evacuated from the wreckage, with two pilots surviving alongside the four passengers.
