The bugs just kept coming': Screams aboard nightmare Qantas bed bug flight
Passengers on a Qantas flight reported bed bugs that kept appearing even as travelers collected luggage, according to a 9News interview. One passenger said insects were crawling in her husband’s shoes and up her legs, and that others were awakened by screams; she added that a baby called “buggies” and some children became sick. After the issue was identified, the aircraft was removed from service. Qantas canceled a Rome-to-Perth return flight to allow engineers and maintenance staff to carry out a deep clean, apologizing to customers and providing accommodation and rebooking on alternative services, with some travelers delayed up to two days. The airline disinfects aircraft every 50 days and cleaning company SKG Services said bed bugs can be unknowingly brought aboard in luggage or clothing.
