The middle seat will become a table on United's newest Airbus jets
United Airlines is turning the middle seat into a permanent table on its newest Airbus A321XLR aircraft, giving passengers more space while keeping Economy Plus seating. United said travelers will be able to book the new concept later this year, with the table located in a dedicated row in Economy Plus. The shared table stretches from armrest to armrest across the middle seat and includes a soft leather-like covering plus two cup areas. Seats in the window and aisle will get additional elbow room and space for belongings compared with standard middle-seat configurations. The airline said Economy Plus on the A321XLR already offers three inches of extra legroom, so the table’s space is in addition to that. United plans domestic flights on the A321XLR later this fall and international service by early 2027, with pricing to be released before sale.
