Three killed in Oregon as 2 helicopters collide near municipal airport
Two Americans and a Brit died when two helicopters collided Thursday near McMinnville Municipal Airport in Oregon, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office. The collision involved a Robinson R22 and an Airbus AS350B3 around 2:10 p.m., and both aircraft crashed into a field near Oregon Route 233. Authorities said all three occupants of the two helicopters were killed. The sheriff’s statement indicated two people were aboard the Robinson: Maddie Aasbo, 22, a flight instructor from Texas, and a student pilot from Britain whose name was withheld pending family notification. The only person on the Airbus was Tyler Sturdevant, 38, of Newberg near McMinnville. The sheriff’s release contradicted an earlier FAA report that listed two people on the Airbus and one on the Robinson. The Robinson aircraft belonged to local flight school Jerry Trimble Helicopters, and the NTSB is investigating.
