Troops Unload China's Lone Aid Flight in Quake-Hit Venezuela as American Relief Effort Grows - Internewscast Journal
The earthquake-relief effort in Venezuela is expanding as China’s lone reported aid flight is unloaded by U.S. troops alongside growing American logistics. Images released by the U.S. government show an Air China aircraft arriving at Simón Bolívar Airport on July 6, about two weeks after the June 24 back-to-back quakes. U.S. service members then unloaded China’s relief supplies off the tarmac, using heavy vehicles to move and sort pallets and load boxes onto trucks. A State Department spokesman, Tommy Pigott, said the U.S. response is “big, fast and effective,” noting more than 1.5 million pounds of assistance delivered since June 24. The State Department also said repairing Simón Bolívar Airport enabled C-17 and other large aircraft, with one runway operational. Separately, Florida-based Global Empowerment Mission plans to deliver 100,000 boxes monthly and has shipped nearly 1 million pounds of supplies, including hygiene kits, tents and tarps, and generators.
