Trump helicopter nearly collides with passenger jet FAA

U.S. aviation regulators have opened an investigation after Marine One—carrying President Donald Trump—reportedly came within close proximity of a passenger jet in Washington, DC airspace. Media reports said the issue occurred as Marine One flew from the White House to Joint Base Andrews on Tuesday, before Trump’s scheduled flight to Los Angeles. According to the Wall Street Journal, air traffic controllers did not suspend commercial traffic at nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport as required. The temporary loss of separation triggered inquiries by the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board. Both aircraft landed safely. The FAA said controllers stayed in contact with both aircraft and reiterated that the president was never in danger. A New York Times report cited a closest approach of 0.8 miles laterally and 700 feet vertically.
