Trump threatens Canadian jetmaker Bombardier despite its extensive U.S. footprint

Donald Trump threatened to ban the sale of Canadian jetmaker Bombardier aircraft in the U.S. unless it manufactures planes in the United States. In response, Bombardier said major components for its aircraft—ranging from wings to engines—are produced in the U.S., and that its supply chain relies heavily on American companies. Since Canada-U.S. trade talks collapsed on Aug. 21, Trump has escalated tariffs and attacks, while Canada retaliated Tuesday with duties on about $20 billion of U.S. goods. Bombardier said it supports tens of thousands of jobs through direct operations and suppliers, including about 2,800 U.S. companies in 47 states.
