TSA says more than 300 drones have been seized near World Cup sites
TSA says more than 300 drones have been seized near World Cup sites as enforcement ramps up ahead of and during FIFA World Cup 2026 preparations. The agency says the federal government, led by a White House Task Force and working with the FBI, DHS, TSA, FAA and state and local law enforcement, has seized more than 300 “unauthorized” drones to date. The effort targets violations in restricted airspace where stadiums are designated “no drone zones.” The TSA warns unauthorized drone operations are a serious federal law violation, with operators facing fines up to $100,000, seizure of the drone, and potential federal criminal charges. Enforcement has included an operation on June 18 reporting eight drones intercepted at Kansas City Stadium and a FIFA Fan Festival; all eight and controllers were seized by the FBI. Two operators received misdemeanor violation notices.
