United Airlines Denies Report Of Allowing Flyers To Avoid New Trump-Named Airport For Free
United Airlines Denies Report Of Allowing Flyers To Avoid New Trump-Named Airport For Free says the airline is rejecting claims that passengers could reroute at no cost to avoid flying to Palm Beach International Airport after its renaming. The report, based on a blog by Live And Let’s Fly, claimed an internal memo would let reservation agents offer destination alternatives for free if customers objected to the newly named President Donald J. Trump International Airport, initially PBI and later DJT. United confirmed to USA Today that a memo was sent but that it was poorly written and did not authorize fee-free changes tied to the airport’s new name. The airline said passengers may change itineraries for other reasons, but the change in name or code is not an eligible basis for waiving fees. The airport’s IATA code shifts from PBI to DJT on August 18 as FAA systems and tags update, with PBI used until then. The dispute also notes the code change was debated due to potential pilot confusion.
