United Arab Emirates says it has intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters

The United Arab Emirates intercepted an Iranian drone over its territorial waters on Monday, the country’s Defense Ministry said. The incident followed a weekend exchange of fire between the U.S. and Iran, the first such action in a month. In a brief statement, the UAE said it “dealt with” a drone detected approaching from Iran, and there were no immediate claims of responsibility from Tehran or reports of damage. The episode came after U.S. forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on an Iranian island on Sunday, ending a lull in fighting that has lasted more than six months. Iran then launched missiles at U.S. sites in Jordan, which were intercepted, and U.S. Central Command said it had targeted minelaying forces near the Strait of Hormuz.
