United Flight Declares Emergency Minutes After Takeoff
United Airlines said a plane carrying passengers from Los Angeles to Newark, New Jersey turned back shortly after takeoff due to a mechanical problem reported by the crew. The incident happened on Thursday about 25 minutes into the flight, and the airline stated United Flight 1855 returned safely to Los Angeles to address the issue. Passengers disembarked normally at the gate, and United arranged for a different aircraft to take them to their destination later the same day. The airline described the complication only as a “hydraulic maintenance issue,” without further details. The aircraft landed safely about an hour after the initial departure, with no injuries to passengers or crew, though travelers faced a more than five-hour delay over the holiday weekend.
