Wacha tu': Sifuna recalls emotional flight that brought Raila's body home
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna recalled the emotional Kenya Airways repatriation trip that brought the body of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga home from India. In a statement covering Oct. 15–16, 2025, Sifuna said he kept his boarding passes for Kenya Airways flights KQ202 and KQ203, which carried him between Nairobi and Mumbai during the mission. He thanked the Indian High Commission in Nairobi and the Indian government for facilitating travel under difficult circumstances. Sifuna praised Kenya Airways management and the flight crew, led by Captain Saviemaria Ondego, especially the moment the captain changed the call sign to RAO001 upon entering Kenyan airspace. He also apologized to passengers inconvenienced by bumps, seat changes, and delays, and thanked the Kenya Defence Forces for honors extended to Raila. Odinga died in India on Oct. 15, 2025, after being pronounced dead from cardiac arrest at Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam.
