WestJet travelers should brace for disruption as a potential strike and lockout approach. The airline canceled 81 scheduled flights for Saturday after a 72-hour strike notice was issued early Thursday for 4,400 flight attendants with the Canadian Union of Public Employees. WestJet responded with its own 72-hour lockout notice. The work stoppage has not started: the earliest a strike could begin is Sunday at 12:01 a.m. MT (2:01 a.m. ET) if no deal is reached. WestJet said it’s still negotiating. Additional cancellations could follow if talks fail before Sunday morning. WestJet will allow one-time changes or cancellations without fees for trips between July 30 and Aug. 4, and regional WestJet Encore and certain code-share flights, including Delta Air Lines, are not affected.
