What to Know About Garuda Indonesia's New Baggage Policy

Garuda Indonesia’s new baggage policy shifts to a “piece concept” model that expands checked-baggage allowances based on route and cabin class. The airline said the changes apply to tickets issued from September 1, 2026, onward, as Garuda Indonesia Director of Transformation Neil Raymond Mills explained in a statement cited by Antara. Under the new framework, passengers receive an allowance of up to 64 kilograms depending on whether they fly domestic or international routes and which cabin they select. For domestic travel in Economy, passengers get one checked bag up to 23 kilograms, while Business and First allow two bags up to 32 kilograms each, totaling up to 64 kilograms. Internationally, Economy receives two bags of up to 23 kilograms each (46 kilograms total), and Business/First receive two bags up to 32 kilograms each (up to 64 kilograms). Compared with the previous rules, Mills said domestic Economy rises from 20 to 23 kilograms, and international Economy from 30 to 46 kilograms. Tickets issued before September 1, 2026 keep the allowances printed on them even if travel occurs later.
