CeeCee Lyles, a 33-year-old United Airlines flight attendant from Fort Pierce, Florida, was one of the crew members aboard Flight 93—the fourth and final U.S. airliner hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001. The plane took off from Newark International Airport in New Jersey and was bound for San Francisco, but according to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, when Lyles was able to reach her husband, Lorne, the aircraft was heading toward Washington, D.C. She first failed to contact him, left a message, then connected again shortly before 10:03 a.m. During that second call, she said passengers were devising a plan to retake control, including throwing boiling hot water. The 40 onboard died when the jet crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
