Why did Ryanair-Air Malta plane window blow out mid-air and could it happen again?
A Ryanair–Air Malta Boeing 737-800 departing Thessaloniki, Greece, suffered a window blowout mid-flight last week, nearly pulling a passenger partly out of the aircraft, according to the reports cited. Ljubisa Karović was seated by an adjacent window when it failed and blew out, allowing his head and shoulders to pass out; his wife and other passengers helped keep him inside. Investigators have not confirmed the exact cause, but passenger accounts link the window failure to debris impact after a right-engine problem at about 16,000 feet. The flight returned shortly after takeoff “due to a right engine issue and cabin decompression,” authorities said, with the aircraft turning around over North Macedonia. The incident is described as extremely rare, with a prior fatal example in 2018 on a Southwest flight. Karović is being treated for injuries and trauma.
