Wisconsin lawmaker says he swam to safety after emergency plane landing
xCruzo Brief
Rep. Tom Tiffany, the GOP nominee for Wisconsin governor, said he and the pilot survived a Lake Wausau emergency landing Saturday after the plane lost power while approaching Wausau Downtown Airport. Tiffany, 68, said that after landing they called 911 as the aircraft began to submerge, then exited and swam to a shallow area until responders reached them by boat. He and the pilot suffered minor injuries, Tiffany said, and he wrote that he was grateful to be in the hospital with his wife. The FAA said it is investigating. Tiffany faces David Crowley in the Nov. 3 election.
