World's second best airport begins remote baggage screening on flights to Los Angeles and Seattle
World’s second best airport begins remote baggage screening on flights to Los Angeles and Seattle as Incheon International Airport expands its “luggage-free” transfer process for transit passengers. Starting with Los Angeles International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said travelers connecting onward will not have to collect and recheck checked baggage during connections, cutting transfer times by at least 20 minutes. Previously, passengers had to clear U.S. immigration, retrieve luggage, complete customs, then carry bags to a separate airline counter, a process that typically took around 90 minutes. The remote system sends high-resolution X-ray images from Incheon directly to U.S. Customs and Border Protection while flights are en route. Approved bags are transferred automatically to connecting flights, with initial rollout for Korean Air and Delta Air Lines eligible passengers.
