Airport security firms linked to alleged Mexican arms trafficking network
Airport security firms linked to an alleged Mexican arms trafficking network is under scrutiny after investigative reporting questioned the corporate background of contractors at Mexico City International Airport (AICM). OCCRP and its Mexican partner, Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI), report that SERPROSEP SA de CV and Armour King SA de CV received three-year airport security contracts in 2025. The probe points to registry documents linking co-owners Jorge Enrique Alberts Ponce and Alfonso Sainz de la Maza Zúñiga to later allegations by federal prosecutors, including organized crime and firearms trafficking. Authorities estimate about 5.5 million additional passengers will move through AICM during the World Cup. While officials say there’s no evidence security operations were compromised, investigators argue the ownership history raises due diligence concerns. Alberts has an arrest warrant dated November 2025, and the contracting work reportedly began months beforehand.
