Alan Liere's hunting and fishing report for Oct. 15, 2026
Anglers across the Inland Northwest are seeing improved fishing as seasonal conditions shift. The Spokane River is offering fish spreading out from summer locations into riffles, classic summer water, glassy tailouts, and deeper pools. Silver Bow Fly Shop reports dry-dropper success, typically a bright chubby with caddis or stonefly nymphs, and says October caddis are working late in the day. Blue-winged olives are expected soon, especially on the North Fork Coeur d’Alene. On the St. Joe, fall and October caddis are producing, but overnight freezes should bring mahogany duns and BWOs dominance and push attention to lower sections for cutthroat. Lake Roosevelt, Conconully, Fish, Jameson, and Sprague are also active for trout, kokanee, and perch, while steelhead runs are showing at the Grande Ronde mouth and around Boggan’s Oasis near Shumaker Grade.
