Alaska teen rescued after 3 days in frigid waters reveals tragic end for 2 family members

Derek Parker Aghnaanga, 15, was found by a U.S. Coast Guard aircrew about four miles east of St. Lawrence Island after nearly two days on an overturned fishing skiff in the frigid Bering Sea. Rescuers said he told them during the ordeal that his cousin had slipped away overnight and that his older brother, Sidney Kulowiyi, remained beneath the vessel after all three were thrown into the water. The Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules crew dropped a survival raft and equipment and used flares to guide the fishing vessel Northwest Explorer. Aghnaanga survived but showed symptoms of hypothermia; the other two bodies were recovered.
