Alex Anzalone, Chris Godwin Jr. Among Bucs' Captains for 2026

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers named their 2026 team captains in a players’ vote Monday, selecting six leaders, four of whom also held the captain role in 2025. The group includes quarterback Baker Mayfield, tackle Tristan Wirfs, wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr., nose tackle Vita Vea, linebacker Alex Anzalone, and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. Mayfield, Winfield, and Wirfs enter their fourth seasons as captains, while Vea will wear the “C” for a fifth year in a row. Godwin and Anzalone were not captains for Tampa Bay in 2025, but both have previous captain experience; Anzalone previously wore “C” with the Detroit Lions for each of his five seasons (2021-25). They fill roles left by Lavonte David’s retirement and Mike Evans’ move to San Francisco. Tampa Bay opens the 2026 regular season Sunday at Cincinnati against the Bengals.
