Anthropic commits billions to a 'public benefit fund'

Anthropic said it plans to set aside large portions of its wealth to support public-interest initiatives through a new entity called the “Anthropic Public Benefit Fund.” In a blog post, the AI company said it would create a separate LLC that uses Anthropic shares to make donations to nonprofits or to provide “direct distributions to specific populations.” The fund would receive larger stakes as the company grows. Anthropic added that an initial funding round equal to 5% of its shares remains subject to stockholder approval. The article notes that a 5% stake is worth about $48 billion based on Anthropic’s most recent valuation in May. In 2025, OpenAI also created a nonprofit foundation backed by a multibillion-dollar stake.
