Appeal to anglers after swans injured by fishing tackle in Worksop
xCruzo Brief
Wildlife rescue teams in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, are urging anglers to be more careful after fishing tackle caused injuries to swans along the Chesterfield Canal. Glenn Slaney of the Warsop Wildlife Rescue Team (WWRT) said call-outs for injured birds have risen sharply compared with last year. He reported 15 incidents involving the same family of swans, with injuries linked to fishing line, hooks and nets. One case involved discarded fishing line wrapped around a bird’s beak and throat. A cygnet later died during urgent veterinary surgery. Slaney said repeated calls have emotionally taken a toll on the team.
