Authorities search Grand Traverse Bay for boater who went missing Monday
xCruzo Brief
Authorities in Leelanau County are searching for a 25-year-old boater missing Monday on Grand Traverse Bay. Dispatchers received a report at about 8:40 a.m. of an unattended dinghy spinning in the water just off Stoney Point in Suttons Bay Township. Stoney Point is roughly 273 miles north of Detroit. Responders arrived minutes later and found the dinghy’s owner, according to the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office, who said Brett Zimmerman, 25, of Lansing, Kansas, was the last known person aboard. Officials requested U.S. Coast Guard assistance and reviewed marina security-camera video to confirm Zimmerman was operating the dinghy. A dive team used side-scan sonar and drones; the search paused around 9 p.m. and resumed Tuesday.
