Migrant landings denied by Southampton and Portsmouth ports
xCruzo Brief
Both Portsmouth harbour and Southampton Port refused requests to accept the landing of 120 migrants intercepted off the Isle of Wight, according to reports. The BBC said the migrants were landed Sunday at Eastney, in Langstone Harbour, where anti-migrant protesters blocked the road. Associated British Ports (ABP), which operates Southampton, said it was not the closest port and that it “did not have suitable reception facilities available.” The BBC also reported that the King’s Harbour Master for Portsmouth declined a coastguard request and had been approached for comment. The protest followed a separate demonstration at the Port of Dover the previous day.
