Chicago aquarium shares health update on Marineland belugas after whale deaths

Shedd Aquarium in Chicago says several belugas transferred from Ontario’s Marineland are experiencing health problems, according to a Friday update. The aquarium reported last week that two of three belugas that died within a week at its site were from Marineland. Shedd said Peekachu died Aug. 25, two weeks after relocation, and Rain, a 20-year-old beluga moved in mid-August, also died. A 34-year-old beluga that had lived in Chicago for decades died as well. Shedd is providing round-the-clock supervision and awaiting lab results, noting some animals are eating while others are not and none are “where we want them to be.”
