Coast Guard Rescues 37 Suspected Migrants Stranded Off California Coast for Two Days

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 37 suspected migrants after locating their vessel adrift off Southern California for two days. Crews reached the boat on Friday about 88 miles from Channel Islands Harbor. The response began at around 3:40 p.m. after the operator contacted the Coast Guard by radio, reporting there was no fuel, food, or water and no personal safety equipment on board. Multiple rescue teams were dispatched, including cutters Sockeye and Halibut, personnel from Los Angeles–Long Beach and Channel Islands stations, and an air crew. Rescue teams found the vessel around 8:30 p.m. and transferred all 37 onto the Coast Guard Cutter Sockeye. It was brought to Coast Guard Base Los Angeles–Long Beach for handover to U.S. Border Patrol.
