Coast Guard searching for boater missing off coast of Ocean City
The U.S. Coast Guard is actively searching for a mariner missing off the coast of Ocean City after his 25-foot recreational vessel was found unmanned following a departure from Sunset Marina. Coast Guard watchstanders at Sector Maryland-National Capital Region were notified on June 11, and responders say the mariner was known to frequent offshore fishing areas near Ocean City. Initial aerial searches could not establish communications, and no person was observed aboard the vessel. A rescue swimmer confirmed the absence of anyone on board, prompting expanded search efforts using fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and surface assets. The operation continued with assets including an HC-130J Hercules from Elizabeth City and the Cutter Pompano remaining on scene.
