The Rays posted a 12-2 blowout over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night, fueled by a 21-hit season-best attack and power from Nick Fortes and Yandy Díaz. Fortes went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, and both he and Díaz hit three-run homers as Tampa Bay jumped to a 2-0 lead in a four-game series. Tampa Bay added runs early off Kevin Gausman, taking a 3-0 first-inning advantage on a two-out rally that included Cedric Mullins’ double and DeLuca’s two-run single. Toronto loaded the bases in the first but failed to score, finishing the game having lost six of its last seven. Díaz’s RBI scoring continued in the fourth after his leadoff single in his 1,000th career game, assisted by a throwing error on Mullins’ steal. Tampa Bay expanded the margin to 8-0 in the fifth and scored again in the sixth and ninth, with Díaz capping the scoring on a three-run homer. Gausman allowed five runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 innings, while Rasmussen gave up two runs over five-plus innings. The Rays improved to 7-1 against Toronto this season.
