Deer Isle seafood farmer is opening an oyster bar in downtown Blue Hill

A Deer Isle seafood operation is expanding with a new oyster bar in Blue Hill and a retail shop planned for Stonington this summer, as Deer Isle Oyster Co broadens its footprint. Abby Barrows, who acquired a 3.5 acre aquaculture lease in 2015 and recently added another 4.5 acre lease nearby, will operate the new venues alongside a year round supply of farmed oysters stored through winter in an old lobster pound. The Stoop oyster bar and The Dooryard shop will connect people with local food, offer farm tours, and educate visitors about aquaculture while creating new markets for the business.
