Falcons lock up OL Bergeron on 4-year extension

The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a four-year extension with starting left guard Matthew Bergeron, the team announced Saturday from Flowery Branch, Georgia. The contract is valued at $96 million, including $60 million guaranteed, according to sources cited by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Bergeron was set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham said the team is building around Bergeron due to his toughness, consistency, and leadership. He was a second-round pick in 2023 from Syracuse and has started every game since 2023 at left guard, missing two in 2024. Bergeron, 26, is the third player to receive an extension from Atlanta in the last two months, joining Drake London and Kyle Pitts Sr. The Falcons still need to address running back Bijan Robinson’s contract extension negotiations.
